The internet is a brilliant place to learn, connect with friends, and have fun but it’s important to stay safe. This page is designed for secondary school students at UTC to help you understand the risks online and give you practical tips to protect yourself.

    What to Be Aware Of

    • Cyberbullying: Hurtful or threatening messages, posts or comments.

    • Online predators: People who may try to trick or exploit young people.

    • Scams and fraud: Fake competitions, phishing emails, or links designed to steal information.

    • Inappropriate content: Unsafe or harmful material you might come across.

    • Privacy risks: Sharing too much personal information that could be misused.

Tips & Tricks for Staying Safe Online

    • Think before you post: Don’t share personal details like your address, phone number, or school.

    • Use strong passwords: Combine letters, numbers, and symbols. Keep them private.

    • Check privacy settings: Make sure your social media accounts are set to private.

    • Be kind online: Treat others with respect. Don’t say anything you wouldn’t say face-to-face.

    • Report and block: If someone is bothering you, block them and report it.

    • Don’t talk to strangers: Be cautious about accepting friend requests or messages from people you don’t know.

    • Think critically: Not everything online is true. Check reliable sources before believing or sharing.
