    At UTC Plymouth, our uniform reflects the expectations of the modern working world. It is smart, practical and professional, preparing students for future STEAM careers while promoting equality and pride in our community. 

    Why a Uniform?

    Uniform items can be ordered through Westcountry Embroidery:

    Orders can be delivered to school or collected in store. Please allow a two‑week turnaround (subject to stock availability). Orders received by the 15th of the month will be delivered by the end of the month. 

    Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9) 

    • Black cargo trousers or combat shorts (required, non‑branded, regular retailers) 

    • Royal blue UTC polo shirt or T‑shirt (required, branded, Westcountry Embroidery) 

    • Royal blue UTC sweatshirt (required, branded, Westcountry Embroidery) 

    • All‑black shoes/trainers (required, non‑branded, regular retailers) 

    • Steel toe cap boots/sturdy shoes for workshops (optional, non‑branded, regular retailers) 

    Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11) 

    • Black cargo trousers or combat shorts (required, non‑branded, regular retailers) 

    • Black UTC polo shirt or T‑shirt (required, branded, Westcountry Embroidery) 

    • Black UTC sweatshirt (required, branded, Westcountry Embroidery) 

    • All‑black shoes/trainers (required, non‑branded, regular retailers)

    Sixth form Uniform  

    Sixth Form 

    • Navy UTC Plymouth polo shirt or T-shirt 

    • Navy UTC Plymouth hoodie or sweatshirt 

    • Black or navy combat trousers or shorts 

    • All‑black shoes/trainers 

    • Steel top cap boots/shoes for the workshop 

    • Navy coveralls/overalls (recommended) 

     

    Rules – What Students Can Wear 

    • Black cargos or plain black leggings 

    • UTC Plymouth branded T‑shirt or polo 

    • UTC Plymouth branded sweatshirt 

    • Black school shoes/trainers 

    • Dyed hair, small nose piercing, small items of jewellery 

    Rules – What Students Cannot Wear 

    • Large jewellery (e.g., big hoop earrings, large rings with raised facets) 

    • Skirts or cycling shorts 

    • Tracksuit bottoms 

    • Non‑UTC jumpers/hoodies or branded clothing (including hats) 

    • Shoes/trainers with logos or white soles (e.g., Converse) 

    • Drawing on themselves 

    P.E. Kit 

    • Black UTC sports top or T‑shirt (required, branded, Westcountry Embroidery) 

    • Black shorts (optional branded, Westcountry Embroidery) 

    • Black tracksuit bottoms (optional branded, Westcountry Embroidery, no ZIPS) 

    • Sports trainers (required, regular retailers) 

    • Black long sports socks & shin pads (required for some KS3/KS4 Sport studies lessons and fixtures) 

    • Studded football boots (required for certain lessons at Devonport Park) 

    • Hair must be tied up adhering to our risk assessment  

    • No jewellery allowed at any time including chains, rings, earrings and bracelets.  

    • No blue UTC jumpers allowed in PE lessons 

    Students may wear PE kit to school on the days they have PE lessons or extra curricular clubs. Coloured sports trainers must only be worn during PE/club sessions. 

    Leadership & Uniform Authority 

    The leadership team has ultimate authority regarding uniform regulations. Infringements will be reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis. 

    Support with Uniform Costs 

    We understand that purchasing school uniform can sometimes be challenging. At UTC Plymouth, we want every student to feel included and prepared without financial barriers. 

    What You Can Do 

    • Speak to us directly – If you’re struggling, please contact the school office. We may be able to provide support through second‑hand uniform supplies or local funding schemes. 

    • Check local council support – Many councils offer school uniform grants for families who receive certain benefits. These can provide up to £200 towards uniform costs. 

    Uniform should never be a barrier to learning. If you are worried about costs, please reach out, we will always work with you to find a solution.
